HISTORY
Rare & Organic was created by James MacNay in 2004. We have always wanted ...
.. to bring you the very best food and drink. How we do that, and how we spot quality, are what makes us unique.
➢ The three founding tenets still hold true: one, that the best food and wine is from the region where it has its
roots in local history and culture; two, that small production is best; and three, that sustainability is fundamental;
➢ Quality control is born of our personal relationships with all of the producers, visiting them regularly in their
vineyards, olive presses and dairies. This close contact is the basis of the cast-iron guarantee of excellence we can offer
to our customers.;
ABOUT US
We are also delighted to provide in-house tasting events, ..
.. including our famous “Prosecco Party” wine and food evenings at a venue of your choosing.
➢ James MacNay - in decreasing order of generality James loves Italy, the outdoors, food and wine. He studied English and History at the University of the West of England in Bristol, a city that remains very close to him. With little recognisable logic James then tried what seemed like every job going, until a year spent teaching in Italy lit the touch paper. He hasn’t looked back and Italy remains his favourite subject - which is lucky, considering what he does for a living. In 2004 James met Cinzia Long whilst working for a walking tour company in Italy. On a walk over Monte Subasio, Umbria, in 40 degree heat, they found a shared sense of humour, enjoyment of the natural world, and deep affection for food and wine.
➢ Cinzia Long joined the company in 2006 and brought unique culinary knowledge learned at her mother’s kitchen table,
along with an eye for perfection. Cinzia’s arrival at Rare & Organic also brought with it an exciting dynamic, welcoming our customers’
active participation in learning about our food and wine;
